The modern razor was introduced to the world in the 1800s which led to the birth of the double-edged blade, safety razor and eventually, disposable blades. Centuries later in the 1900s, the electric razor was born. These were for men's shaving purposes. In 1915 during World War I, Gillette introduced the first safety razor for women. However it didn't click because of the association that shaving was a masculine activity.
Even today, many of the notions still stand firm. Times have changed and so have hair removal methods for women. One can choose between depilatory creams, shaving, epilation, laser hair removal and waxing. Each one has their own advantages and disadvantages and though shaving has more of the former than the latter, there continues to be apprehension about it.

Shaving Body Hair? No Problem
Shaving the body is an exception. If sudden weekend plans include a trip to the beach, mall or park in sweltering heat, in all likelihood shorts, skirts and dresses are part of the dress code. Most hair removal methods require preparation but shaving? Not at all. All you need is a razor and shaving solution like foam or gel. Even if you do not have it, soap can be substituted instead. Foam up, shave down and in minutes, limbs will be smooth and hair-free. The same attitude doesn't translate as easily for shaving the face.
Myths Of Facial Shaving For Women
When the first women's safety razor was introduced at the start of the 19th century, the activity's masculine association led it to sink. The use of stockings could only hold good for a finite amount of time. They eventually took to it centuries later and led to the birth of shaving as we know. Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe are reported to have been shaving their facial fuzz. But even today, many women are apprehensive about shaving their faces and here's why.
Belief that shaving is an activity reserved for males
Shaving will damage the skin
They will get cuts when shaving
Their facial hair will grow back thicker
It will lead to skin problems

Reality Of Facial Shaving
In reality, none of the above statements about facial shaving is true by any means. Shaving with the right tools and in the correct manner will not damage the skin or lead to skin problems. When razors are used in the correct direction with adequate amount of pressure, they will not cut you. Most popularly, facial hair does not grow back thicker when you shave. It feels thick and coarse when it initially pokes through the skin but the entire follicle does not grow out like that.

Benefits Of Face Shaving
Shaving your face is quick and time-saving
It is inexpensive as you do not need new or additional tools each time
It does not pain
It does not require professional assistance so you can do it yourself
It also works as an exfoliation method to remove surface cells
Tools Required To Shave Your Face
Select your razor carefully. Razors with cartridges that include multiple blades are ideal for the body as they work in tandem for the purpose and are suited to glide over longer areas of the body like the limbs. Facial razors generally come with a single blade to gently remove hair even in hard-to-reach spots without damaging the skin. With your razor, you will need a soap solution of some kind such as shaving cream, foam or shower gel.

How To Shave Your Face
Start by washing the skin and applying soap over the area to lather it; but not so much that you cannot see anything. Wipe your razor and angle it to rest on the face. In the same direction of hair growth, shave using the razor with gentle pressure. Hold it steady to get a smooth finish. Adjust its body to use its edges to get the corners or smaller areas. If you need a closer finish, wash, lather and go at it again. Tips to keep in mind are do not use unnecessary force, do not shave against the grain and keep your tools clean. You can use this method to shave your brows, upper lips, side burns and chin.
