Among Delhi's many culinary gems lies another in the heart of the city. Jade, housed at the Claridges Hotel, has recently reopened its doors to customers old and new. The highly anticipated reopening with fresh new interiors and a revamped menu are some reasons this restaurant is already a favourite. A pan-Asian restaurant catering to the Indian palette requires spice, heat and a saucy mix of flavours. Jade does justice to them in addition to those who seek seasoned flair for authentic recipes. The restaurant was warm, welcoming and strangely packed to the house on a weekday evening. Our server Nikhil was kind enough to inform us that the restaurant has been packed ever since it reopened early this year and the steadfast popularity after a month too is evident to all who visit. Anyone who is welcomed by their eclectic meets sophisticated interiors is instantly transported to the Orient and who doesn't love a visa-free holiday? With our very refreshing citrus tonic drink from their large list of cocktails and mocktails, we began this culinary roller coaster and you will soon understand why this ride was no less than one.

As far as food reviews go, restaurants display their hearty and in our case, meaty works of art. Chef Ankur Gulati painted our tables with everything imaginable from the menu. Signature dishes, we were told but who knew we were being treated to an absolute feast. We were served a crab meat soup to start with and the taste even though simple was far from bland. Soon after we were greeted with dimsums of all kinds from their expansive and meticulously crafted dimsum menu. Prawns, lobsters, scampi, truffles, mushrooms, cheese - you name it and it was probably served to us in interesting dimsum ways.
Before we were prepped for the main course, we were served appetisers too to showcase their diverse culinary prowess. Among them, the duck spring rolls, steamed scallops, pork spare ribs and the massive lotus stems were absolute standouts.

When it was time for the main course, we weren't expecting much because our tummies and hearts were already full. But then came a braised leg of lamb wrapped in the pandan leaf it was steamed in served on a bed of rice. Along with we were served another exotic stir-fried rice and white asparagus served with a thick glossy sauce. Everything from food to facade adds to the experience of dining at this restaurant.
Sweet tooths will be sorely happy and at home at Jade too. The mango and coconut sago pudding was luscious but light and with a touch of pomelo sprinkled on top, packed the punch too. There was also their signature passion fruit cheesecake that you have to simply eat to believe why it is considered a popular favourite.
Our verdict is simple but the food on your table at this old yet new favourite is not. The ambience. Inviting. The food. A carnival of flavours. Should one return to this restaurant to relive the total experience? Oh, once you've been to Jade, you never truly leave.
