Jean Paul Gaultier, a French haute couture designer, absolutely seems to love the Indian saree. He has been showcasing looks inspired from India for a long time now. Even when he was the creative head for Hermes, he had models walk down the ramp in easy breezy sarees. His latest show at the Paris Fashion Week, was all about Indian adornments and his interpretation of a saree.
He wanted to reinterpret the saree for a skiing destination and you have to see the results. The way he has mixed the saree into a glamorous ski-resort wear outfit is quite incredible.
He effortlessly combines sarees with a pant suit, quilted vests, statement shoulders - you name it and he has done it! Gaultier played with tulle, embellishments and a belt and he experimented a lot with the pallu. He also experimented with a lot of metallics, crystals and feathers with the saree. The pallus are turning into dresses and gloves. We are absolutely loving the modern yet contemporary way of wearing a saree.
Chain nose rings and some crazy make up also stole the show. Seeing chain nose rings on the streets everyday to now spotting them on an international ramp is quite lovely! We absolutely love how even the western world is getting inspired by the quintessential Indian saree. It's absolutely delightful. Wearing a saree dress is something we have always dreamed of, and now Gaultier makes it possible!
Sarees have taken the western world by storm too. Go ahead, it's your turn to rock them the way you want to!
