Kareena Kapoor tells us about her health and fitness choices during pregnancy

That Taimur Ali Khan is the Indian internet's blue-eyed boy isn't new information. So when Kareena Kapoor announced her second pregnancy with Saif Ali Khan, it sent Bollywood fans into a tizzy. Not only can they barely wait for star baby number 2, they've also got an eagle eye on the expecting mama and what she's up to. So far, Kareena has been having a bustling second pregnancy by shooting for films, exercising and continuing her associations as per usual. As the Bollywood superstar collaborates with Pride Of Cows for single origin dairy range, NDTV Swirlster caught up with Kareena Kapoor about her love for all things dairy and lessons she will be taking with her into pregnancy number 2.

NDTV Swirlster: How important is it for you to choose ingredients that are clean and fresh for your family and you?

Kareena Kapoor: I have always been very particular about health and wellness. It is super important for me to eat clean and fresh food and I think this applies to everyone. Especially amidst the pandemic, the way products are being handled and packaged are of utmost importance. This was also one of the reasons that inched me closer to Pride of Cows. The way the milk, ghee and curd are produced and packaged; from the farm to your doorstep without any human touch, is amazing. The fresher the food, the more nutrition you are consuming.

NDTV Swirlster: Has being pregnant changed the way you eat or drink at all?

Kareena Kapoor: Not really, because I have always been a healthy person. I have been eating the same food that I have been eating before. It's important to stay healthy throughout. But I do make sure to eat curd in the morning and during lunch. Make sure you always include vegetables in your diet. If you eat your ghar ka khana, roti sabzi, dal chawal and dahi with little ghee to it, you are pretty much getting most of your nutrients. A simple diet is more than enough to stay healthy.

NDTV Swirlster: What lessons will you be taking from your first pregnancy to your second?

Kareena Kapoor: With my first pregnancy I worked till the end and I'm still working this time around as well. I'm actually shooting for a movie right now so it's really exhilarating to learn that I can still work and shoot a movie while being pregnant. This pregnancy, the key is to not gain 25 kgs that I did the first time around (laughs). I think I'm definitely much more prepared and conscious this time around.

NDTV Swirlster: What is your favourite dish to make using Pride of Cows products?

Kareena Kapoor: I love to add ghee in my parantha and dal chawal. But when I'm indulging, I definitely love eating aatey ka halwa which is always cooked in the purest form of ghee. So that is definitely my favourite dish made with Pride of Cows. Curd rice is my staple food; having the creamiest, thickest curd with rice just makes the meal so perfect.

NDTV Swirlster: How do you maintain balance between eating well and staying fit?

Kareena Kapoor: To maintain a healthy diet, it's always better to plan your meals in advance. I usually plan my meals in the morning so I know exactly what I'm going to eat for lunch or whether I'm going to add a fruit in between. I balance my meals out as well. I think even the doctors today advise expecting moms to exercise once during the day. I think it's very important that one has movement in their body. It could be in any form; going for a walk, weight training, swimming. So it's important to stay mobile as well.

NDTV Swirlster: Which are your favourite dairy-based foods that you cannot get enough of?

Kareena Kapoor: I love dairy products - honestly it is hard to pick my favorites. I love ghee, milk, curd, and I eat them in various forms and ensure they are part of my morning and evening routine. If I'm out for a shoot and want those mid-meal snacks, I would go for a smoothie, milkshake or cold coffee. My lunch or dinner has to compulsorily have ghee on my parathas or ghee tadka in my dal. Even Taimur has taken after me. He keeps asking if there is ghee in his parantha.

NDTV Swirlster: What led to your association with Pride of Cow?

Kareena Kapoor: I have been a fan of Pride of Cows even before I was approached for the association. I have been consuming Pride of Cows milk from a very long time and once you drink the milk, you understand the difference. The quality is absolutely phenomenal. So when they approached me for their other products which are ghee and curd, I was really happy because this felt so natural.

NDTV Swirlster: What is your health advice for moms-to-be?

Kareena Kapoor: Keep your thoughts clean and stay away from negativity. Please eat what your heart wants but don't overeat. The idea is to keep eating small meals throughout the day and spread it out. Your digestion also tends to slow down so I do eat a lot of curd, especially in the morning and during lunch. It really helps your digestion. There is this whole belief; which is a myth, that you are eating for two. It is actually not. You need to listen to your body and eat what you feel like in adequate quantities. I would suggest every expecting mother out there to listen to your body and do what is right for yourself.
