Just when we thought the opening day of Lakme Fashion Week couldn't get any better, there was Anita Dongre's show. Bringing an eventful first day to a close, the showcase had plenty of highlights. Right from the moment we entered the venue, it was as if we had stepped into fairyland.
On this humid winter night, the ITC hotel terrace underwent an unrecognizable transformation. Rustic benches to seat the guests were decorated with leafy branches and candlelight, with its dreamy setup making it seem as if it was almost a personal fashion show. Bollywood's finest came out in large numbers which included Shabana Azmi, Diana Penty, Isabella Kaif, Shamita Shetty amongst others, all to support the beloved designer.

When the lights finally dimmed and models took to the aisles, the wait was worth it. The silhouettes throughout were well-fitted, airy forms which were structured at the waist and transitioned to gentle, flowing hemlines. Some of that can be credited to R | Elan, the fluid new fabric from Reliance which added to the clothing.

The crop top and mid-length pleated skirt, a Dongre staple, found itself in this show with paisley and floral prints. A pleasing addition to mix things up a bit was the midi tulle skirt. While the ballerina chic bottom wear has found its place in international couture, Anita gave it an ethnic touch by pairing it with kurtas and cropped blouses. Ruffled salwar kameez', sequined embroidery, saree drapes under blouses and belted kurtas all added a fresh touch to the designer's signature touches.

The colour palette saw an apt selection of delicate pinks, muted yellows, deep indigos and divine whites; just the kind of shades we'd like to sport this summer. Bringing together the glorious modern Indian wear was a radiant beauty look of rosy cheeks, defined brows, pink lips and flower crowns in their hair.

Bringing the show to a fitting finish were the Bollywood pair that gives many of us couple goals, Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput. Hand-in-hand, the pair looked nothing short of lovely with this being their showstopper debut as a couple.

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput were showstoppers for Anita Dongre
With Shahid in a sherwani, Mira in a printed lehenga-choli and together, together they brought the fairytale-esque show to a fitting finish.
