You'd think a day dedicated to handloom textiles and sustainability would be a quiet one but all it takes is one fierce stunner to shake things up. And who defines 'fierce' and 'stunner' better than the lovely Sushmita Sen. The Bollywood celebrity added a dose of glitz to the somber second day of Lakme Fashion Week by taking over the ramp for the showcase of RmKV silks in collaboration with Sunita Shanker.

The elaborate stage designed like a lounge area first saw a traditional dance performance followed by rows of models wearing silk ensembles in every hue of the rainbow. The highlight of the show was saved for the very last when Sushmita arrived on stage and made the cameras go wild. In a magnificent fusion creation with her brilliant smile, it's safe to say that every eye in the room was on her.
What added to the appeal of the Bollywood star was her unconventional jumpsuit draped saree. Part of the RmKV silks collection created by Sunita Shanker, her outfit was a strapped peach toned silk jumpsuit with pleats at the waist and a reversible pallu in a hue of colours. The Indian fusion look was pulled off to perfection by Sushmita, who paired it with smokey eyes, straight hair and no accessories whatsoever.
Following the show, Sushmita spoke to the press about her showstopping experience saying, "See, this was very easy. Sunita didn't need to discuss this with me; she did one better. She sent me two sketches - one with a jumpsuit and a saree draped, the other with a dress and saree draped. I was like, 'Really? We're doing saree like this? This is exciting!' I'm a big fan of the saree and I'm talking about the traditional saree. It drapes a woman and embraces her power of suggestion - nothing sexier, I believe. It was beautiful for them to give me this opportunity to walk for something that is far more than just a fashion show for Lakme Fashion Week. It represents sustainable fashion, which is in so many ways a celebration of what human impact can do to your environment and to your social responsibility, both of which I have deep respect for."
Stylish as ever while staying true to the theme, it's our highlight from the second day of the fashion fest.
