1. Regular Push-Ups

Regular push-ups are an effective upper-body strengthening exercise that engages the core, shoulders, chest, and biceps. All you need to do is start in a full plank position with hands under shoulders and legs straight back in line. Exhale and bend your elbows back to 45 degrees by squeezing your shoulder blades; push your body back as you inhale. Do a few sets and then relax.

2. High Plank to Low Plank

This is yet another variation of the normal plank. High plank to low plank is highly beneficial to build strength, particularly for a push-up. The push-up targets the deltoids, triceps, quads, and almost entirely your core. Start in a high plank position with your wrists in line with your back straight. Keeping your core engaged and back straight, drop down into a forearm plank one arm at a time, holding it for a few seconds, and push back up into a high plank.

3. Dumbbell Chest Press

Dumbbells are fairly easy equipment to work with for all levels of fitness. The dumbbell chest press hits many of the muscles and is easier on the wrists. Lie with your back on a bench or a stability ball with a dumbbell in each hand, resting them at chest level. Ensure your feet are flat on the floor and push the dumbbells straight up over your chest, ending with your arms directly over your shoulders. Hold onto something and then relax.

4. Wall Push-Ups

This is a very simple modification for a push-up, using the wall. This is the most effective and easiest way to improve your pushup strength. Stand with your arms extended straight out in front of you. Keeping your elbows at a 45-degree angle, lower your body toward the wall as far as you can go. Push up and return to start.

5. Bent Knee Pushups

Another best exercise for the core is the bent pushup. The key here is to focus on the full range of motion; all you need to do is start on all fours, then move your hands forward so your body forms a straight line from head to knees. Allow your feet to fall towards the ground, rolling forward on your knees. Keeping your elbows at 45 degrees, lower your chest down toward the ground, push up, and return.
