Mumbaikars, the wait is finally over. Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo has announced that it will launch its first store in Mumbai this autumn, after the brand's four-year long presence in India. The store, scheduled to open on October 6, 2023 will be located in Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla. Uniqlo's Phoenix Marketcity store in Kurla, will be the retailer's 11th physical store in India. The store will provide their signature variety of LifeWear; their range of clothing that consists of basic and high-quality everyday wear collections for men, women, kids as well as newborns. Announcing the good news on Instagram, Uniqlo wrote, “Mumbaikars, we heard you & the wait is FINALLY over! UNIQLO is arriving in Aamchi Mumbai on October 6th at Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla.”

Uniqlo made its debut in India in 2019. Ever since, the Japanese retailer has largely focused on opening stores in North India including Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, and Chandigarh. The Mumbai store marks the brand's entry into other Indian cities. Due to the aftermath of the pandemic, Uniqlo also launched online commerce in the country. Earlier this year, it also opened its first highway store in India at Dhillon Plaza, Zirakpur.
Tomohiko Sei, Chief Executive Officer, Uniqlo India, said that the new milestone; which is the Mumbai store, marked the brand's strong ongoing commitment to India. He said, “We are delighted to be launching in Mumbai this fall...October will also mark the anniversary of our four-year journey in India, and this new milestone highlights our strong ongoing commitment to India. Until now, our customers in Mumbai have been using our e-commerce channel to shop for their LifeWear essentials, and we now look forward to welcoming them in person to our first Mumbai store."
Uniqlo's first store opened in Hiroshima in 1984. The company manufactures clothes based on their Japanese ideals of simplicity, quality, and longevity.
