4 Tips On How To Prepare The Body For A Split
1. Stretch Your Muscles More
Focusing on stretching and strengthening the muscles of your lower body such as hip flexors, adductors, glutes, hamstring, and groin muscles can help your body prepare for splits.
2. Try The Runner's Stretch Or Half-Seated Splits
Runner's stretch or half-seated splits as they are commonly called in yoga is a good warm-up routine for splits. Start with one leg and get your body in a low lunge while you get the other knee to the ground. Taking your hip to the knee on the ground, stretch out the other leg. You can switch the legs after a set.
3. Increase Hamstring Flexibility
You can increase your hamstring's flexibility by trying the mountain pose. Reach your arms up over your head while looking up and stretch. With arms reaching high, exhale, engage your core, and dive over your legs with a flat back. Depending on flexibility, try to place your hands on the floor slightly in front of you or beside your feet. This will increase the flexibility of the hamstrings.
4. Try The Pigeon Pose
Pigeon pose in yoga is specifically performed as a hip opener and forward bend, stretching your thighs, groin, and back. The leg extended to the rear gets a stretch and other hip flexors. This can be a great way to warm up the body for doing the split.
