Back in February 2024, Miley Cyrus probably didn't know she was creating an iconic fashion moment for the ages. The singer accepted the trophy for the Best Solo Pop performance at the 2024 Grammys Awards and performed her hit song Flowers. But what really brought it home was what she wore for the memorable night. Amongst her many outfit changes was a particularly divine Bob Mackie creation from the designer's 2002 runway collection titled To Broadway with Love. Memories of Miley from that night features glimpses of her in the chiffon cutout dress beaded with rhinestones, sequins, and beads.

Miley knows a legendary fashion moment when she sees one; which is probably why she purchased the said dress she performed in at the 66th Grammys Awards. Days before the Bob Mackie dress was due to be auctioned by Julien's Auctions based in Beverly Hills, the singer quickly added it to her cart so that it found a special spot in her personal archive. The dress was listed at an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000 and Miley has paid an undisclosed sum for the dress. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to MusiCares, a non-profit organisation that provides health, educational and financial assistance to people working in the music industry.

In Bob Mackie's documentary Naked Illusion, Miley Cyrus spoke about dress, saying, "One of the best parts of wearing a Bob Mackie on stage is that sometimes the audience is just as excited to see a Bob Mackie in person as they are to see you. It really looked like I was giving it all I got; I really wasn't doing anything but minding my business and singing the damn song because Bob and his dress was really doing all the work."
Bob Mackie also spoke about Miley wearing his designs, saying, "She has borrowed a few things in the past, including for her New Year's Eve special with Dolly Parton last year. Every time I've ever seen her in anything that I've (designed), I've adored it because she loves to perform and get dressed up--you know that she's loving every minute of it."
