Living our lives and maintaining relationships during lockdown has been tough for most people. While everyone's circumstances may differ and people are experiencing this global pandemic in different ways, nurturing our relationships during this tough time has surely been difficult. Your Mental Health Is Important
It is easy to take out your frustrations about the current situation on your partner because let's face it, it is difficult to stay calm throughout the day right now. However, avoid doing so! If you are feeling anxious about what is going on, don't read the news for a day and get off social media temporarily. Pay attention to your mental health and find ways to disconnect from the situation at hand, so that you don't take it out on the people you love.
Give Each Other Space
It is also important to remember that you are not the only person going through a tough time. Your partner may have mood swings and the best way to let each other deal with these fluctuating emotions, is to let each other get some space. If you or your partner are not feeling like you are in the right state of mind, go to the other room till you are calmer. If you are in long distance relationship, get off the phone and let them call you back. Do not nit-pick on things and try to be more understanding instead.
Planning Something Fun
We forget that nurturing a bond also means you can take part in distracting one another. Whether it is cooking something new together or having a glass of wine on a video call, don't forget to find ways to stay connected emotionally. Creating things that the both of you can look forward to however small, will keep you both feeling positive.
If this time has taught us anything, it is that time with our loved ones should never be taken for granted. Often, things fall apart not because there wasn't any love but because we forget that they require work and patience. Don't forget how lucky you are to have each other during the ongoing pandemic, and when you remember that don't forget to show it to them!
