Ever since Eva Mendes traded the limelight for a family life, the former Hollywood actress has steeped herself in the role of raising her children, venturing into the fashion space and being a supportive partner. The 50-year-old celebrity last starred in films in the late 2010s and has since immersed herself as Ryan Gosling's other half and mother to their two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee. Though motherhood seems like it came naturally to Eva, she too faced challenges when it came to carving her identity as an individual after becoming a mother.

Eva was Drew Barrymore's latest guest on her talk show The Drew Barrymore Show, where she opened up about the trials of motherhood and raising kids. On the topic of becoming mothers, Drew spoke about feeling lost when she gave birth as she found it difficult to "do that job and be other people". To this, Eva replied, "I felt very clear and then I felt very lost, if that makes any sense. Then it was the cliche of 'who am I now after the kids can survive on their own'. They are only 8 and 10 but they don't need me every second, it's a little different."
Eva recently became an author when she released a children's book titled Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries, which revolves around a mother guiding her daughter to be in control of her thoughts, rather than letting scary thoughts control her. Drew says of the book, "The reason I love your book is because it speaks so much about the work that I'm trying to do in my life as I'm about to turn 50. I don't want to live with the thoughts in my head anymore. It's the most profound, beautiful book."
It's refreshing to see celebrities embrace the imperfections that come along with the ride of being parents.
