Multi-hyphenate Richard Gadd recently won the 2024 Emmy Award for outstanding writing for his limited Netflix series Baby Reindeer. Accepting the award, Richard got a bit emotional as he thanked all the amazing cast and crew, saying, “This is the stuff of dreams. Ten years ago, I was down and out. I never, ever thought I'd get my life together. I never ever thought I'd be able to rectify myself with what happened to me and get myself back on my feet again. Then here I am, just over a decade later, picking up one of the biggest writing awards in television.”

Reflecting on his difficult time, the actor continued, “Now I don't mean that to sound arrogant, I mean that as encouragement for anyone who is going through a difficult time right now to persevere. I don't know much about this life, I don't know why we're here, none of that. But I do know that nothing lasts forever. And no matter how bad it gets it always gets better. So if you're struggling, keep going, keep going, and I promise you, things will be okay.”
Richard Gadd's semi-autobiographical limited Netflix series received 11 Emmy nominations and four wins including Outstanding Limited or Anthology series. In the seven-episodic series, Richard Gadd portrayed Donny Dunn, a struggling comedian working in a pub in Camden. His encounter with Jessica Gunning aka Martha leads him to extend a simple act of kindness. The interaction between the two unfolds the story of dark and buried trauma.
