If you have a thing for love-stories, these books have to be on your must-read list

It is a habit that fewer people seem to be inculcating and honing, but reading is something that shapes you as a kid and even as an adult. It gives you perspective and an insight into things, emotions, and lives that you might never get to witness in real life. A good book can be cathartic as well as teach you something; it can take you on a ride of a lifetime into a world which may or may not exist even.

Today, with low attention spans and even lower patience levels, I do not come across a lot of people who take up reading as a hobby. No one finds the time, although some have seen the film versions. If I am honest, I should confess that there are unread books on my nightstand too, and they have been there for a while. But I know for a fact that I will get to them eventually.

But for now, let me share the three books that I have actually read and re-read because they are just that good, and just that special a tale. If you are into love stories in the most non-traditional way, these three books should definitely be on your read-list.

Jane Eyre

Charlotte Bronte's eternal classic, you will go through the book with your heart in your hands for all the trials and tribulations that Jane goes through. And when Mr Rochester comes into the picture, their tale of love and its many shades will have you feel many emotions, and keep you glued to find out what eventually becomes of them.

The Palace Of Illusions

Draupadi's Mahabharata as it is known, this book by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is a celebrated book that retells the epic from the heroine's point of view. But far from just a retelling, it is the nuances and the undercurrent of what Divakaruni's Draupadi feels is what will reel you in and keep you fixated.

Love In The Time Of Cholera

In some ways, Fermina and Florentino love story is all of us in a very nuanced way - do we love love or just the idea of love? Do we love the person? Or just how we picture them in our heads? One of the most loved books written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, this one is a must-read no matter what.
