The much-awaited Emmys 2018, considered to be the Oscars of the television world, brought with it all the glitz and glamour this year too as Hollywood celebrities walked down the red carpet dressed in their glamorous best. For fans worldwide, it is one of the highlights of the event to see the stars in exclusive designer creations and also to find out who made it to the 'best dressed' lists. Needless to say, the celebs therefore leave no stone unturned to pick the perfect outfit and make a showstopping appearance.
Amidst all the stunning celebrity looks this year, one among them was Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, who instantly stole all attention in a red J. Mendel gown with a thigh high slit up the side. While her red hot style statement mesmerised everyone, fashion experts were quick to point out that it wasn't the first time they were seeing her wear the same gown.

But then again, Padma herself was happy to announce in her Instagram post her real intention behind daring to do what's imagined to be unthinkable in the fashion world.
"I'm excited to wear this beautiful @j_mendel gown (again.) The first time was to the @vogueindia Women of the Year awards last October in Mumbai. I think we should stop sending the message to young women and girls that we all have these endless closets of couture we're never allowed to wear more than once. It seems wasteful not to enjoy these dresses. The hours that it takes, the artisans' labor and the gorgeous fabrics all deserve to be worn again and treasured. Also instead of fretting so much with fittings, I'd rather go to the park and throw a ball with #littlehands or tinker in the kitchen with her bonding over delicious food. I'm proud of everyone's work that got @bravotopchef here to the Emmys and I'm proud to wear this gown again."
At a time when sustainable fashion is the need of the hour, Padma's effort to make a point at a platform like the Emmys is indeed commendable. For celebrities, the pressure is always high to sport one after the other glamorous looks. And wearing the same outfit twice is often tagged as a fashion disaster. But thanks to many celebs - from Princess Diana, Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton to Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno and Tiffany Haddish - they have on many occasion tried to break the norm and repeated the same outfits to prove that designer clothes should be treasured and proudly worn again and again.
On the red carpet, a Hollywood celeb who has stood for sustainable fashion is Cate Blanchett. Her black Armani Privé Couture gown that she wore for 2014 Golden Globes was seen during 2018 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Aouadi Paris Couture dress from 2015.
Back home, a Bollywood actress who isn't shy to repeat her clothes is Deepika Padukone. Remember her white Anamika Khanna anarkali which she wore during the movie premiere of "Padmavaat" as well as during the trailer launch of Chennai Express?
With celebs taking a stand for sustainable fashion, we hope to see more cases of repeat style statements sans the criticisms.
