If Preity Zinta's holiday pictures have made you eager to visit Machu Picchu, then before you head out, check out the top five things that you can do in the “lost city”.

1. The View

The first thing that you must do after stepping foot in Macchu Picchu is soak in the beauty of the place from the popular viewpoint called Guardian House. You will be treated to the most stunning views of the ruins of Machu Picchu and the hilly landscape. Click as many pictures here as you want.

2. Explore Ruins

Machu Picchu is a wonderland for everyone who loves history and nature. Admire the beauty of the Huayna Picchu mountain, with the trail and terraces created by the Incas on its steps. Hiring a guide will help understand the history better as you walk through the ruins.

3. Sun Gate

For those seeking moderate adventure, hike to the scenic viewpoint of the Sun Gate from the Machu Picchu citadel. It is believed that the rising sun would pass through this gate at certain times of the year, owing to its location on the ridge. Take photographs of the gorging valleys and mountains engulfing the area to cherish forever.

4. Inca Bridge

Did you know, the Inca Bridge was a secret back entrance to Machu Picchu? The bridge made out of a wooden plank will give you the chills, especially if you look at the steep drop below. The Incas would retract the bridge to stop the enemy from invading the land.

5. Machu Picchu Town

After a tiring day out, why not take a stroll in the tiny tourist town of Aguas Calientes? The place is packed with plenty of restaurants and souvenir shops. Try some delicious Peruvian cuisine and indulge in some local shopping. Post the Macchu Picchu hike, you can rejuvenate in the hot springs.
