If you've ever purchased a packet of Lays chips and groaned about the proportion of air to salty wafer and its worth, then this launch from Balenciaga might make you think again. The luxury fashion house is known for their striking statements and this time isn't any different. For their Spring Summer 2023 showcase, Balenciaga debuted a Lays branded purse which was clutched tightly by models walking down the runway. The models otherwise displayed a clothing collection in muted tones and textures of mesh and denim. So the brightly coloured purses were a highlight of their look, for more than just their colour, of course.
The purses which are part of the Balenciaga x Lays drop are almost identical to packets of the crispy snack you are used to purchasing from the local vendor below your building. Their design differs with the flavour they are featuring; from classic salted to flamin' hot. Although they look like regular plastic wrappers, the bags are actually made of leather and fashioned to resemble the chip packets. Another differentiator is the zip closure on top and branding across the front. But here's the kicker - Balenciaga is retailing the bags for $1,500 which is approximately Rs 1,20,000. Imagine how many packets of Lays you could buy with money like that!
