Highlighter took the world by storm in 2016 and hasn't let up till date. Fueling the shimmery obsession was a host of new makeup products; one of them being liquid highlighter. Today, liquid highlighter (also referred to as illuminator) isn't new to the world by any means, but the Indian market has got one of its first launches with MyGlamm's Spotlight, a multitasking strobing liquid. Which made it the perfect time to sit down with Jason Arland, Senior Manager of Artistry at MyGlamm for an introduction to liquid highlighter and how to make the best use of it this season.
Swirlster: Tell us a little bit about MyGlamm's new launch
Jason Arland: MyGlamm has launched Spotlight, a liquid illuminator which is for women of colour, Indian women, all skin types - everybody! It can be used on the body and face to get a glow. Basically, it's the highlight we've all been praying for.
Swirlster: Can you tell us more about the features of Spotlight?
Jason Arland: Spotlight has champagne and rose gold tones, which work perfectly to complement Indian skin tones. It also has a pearl element which gives that glow. Being a product for women of colour who have different undertones and skin tones who have discolouration and tans, it's the highlighter to make you feel like a goddess.
Swirlster: Keeping the Indian climate in mind, what works better powder or liquid highlighter?
Jason Arland: I do love both but one thing about powder highlighter is that it isn't as easy to blend over the body. Liquid highlighter is one product that can be worked all over the body seamlessly. It can be blended into the skin well and can be intensified with powder. If I had to choose between the two, my personal preference would be liquid highlighter.
Swirlster: Besides dabbing and blending over the cheekbones, how else can liquid illuminator be used?
Jason Arland: For me, it can be used on any feature of the body that wants to be highlighted. Liquid illuminator can be used on the collarbones, chest, shoulders, abs, back, knees...everywhere. Why it works so well over the body is because its consistency and formula allow it to blend for it not to look heavy or streaky, like you're painting your body but as if it's a part of your skin that reflects light back.
