In a historic move, Saudi Arabia has hosted the country's first-ever fashion show featuring models dressed in swimsuits. According to AFP, the momentous event took place on Friday amid the ongoing Red Sea Fashion Week. The show was held at St. Regis Red Sea Resort, situated off Saudi Arabia's western coast. The poolside fashion event displayed the designs of Moroccan designer Yasmina Qanzal. Most of the models were seen wearing one-piece numbers, including monokinis and beachwear that exposed their shoulders or part of their midriff. The models walked down the ramp wearing different shades of beige, red, and blue hues.
While talking to the news agency AFP, the mastermind behind this show, Yasmina Qanzal said, "It's true that this country is very conservative but we tried to show elegant swimsuits which represent the Arab world. When we came here, we understood that a swimsuit fashion show in Saudi Arabia is a historic moment, because it is the first time to have such event." The designer also mentioned that it was "an honour" to be part of this groundbreaking fashion show.
As per the report, the de facto ruler and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud said, "It's the first time to have a swimsuit fashion show in Saudi Arabia, but why not? Seriously why not?...It's possible and we have it here."
French influencer Raphael Simacourbe, who also attended the , said that in the Saudi context, the event was a major achievement. He expressed, "That's very brave from them to do that today, so I am very happy to be part of it."
Witnessing a nation embracing fearless fashion and creating history with such efforts, never goes out of style.
