Singer Gracie Abrams On Young Love: "I Was In High School And An Idiot"

American singer, songwriter, and record producer Gracie Abrams recently made some candid confessions, keeping in mind the romantic mood ahead of Valentine's Day. In an interview to Cosmopolitan, the This Is What It Feels Like singer opened up about her love life, past relationship, a sudden romantic encounter to much more.

The Minor singer divulged details about how she'll be spending her Valentine's Day this day. “All of my songs are love letters in one way or another, so that's my Valentine.” Although she will be spending her time amidst work during Valentine's Day, she is not opposed to the idea of love. Instead, she values the concept of a healthy relationship. She shared, “What I love about a healthy relationship is that your life doesn't radically change. You just fit into each other in a way that feels positively challenging and deeply supportive; it's like a place to land.”

During the same conversation, Gracie went back to the times when she fell in love for the first time. Recalling the childish narrative with her first boyfriend, she stated, “I was in high school, and I was an idiot,” adding, “Falling in love at that time felt pretty obsessive. I loved everything about him. I felt so inspired and motivated by him, and he was my best friend. It was real love.” The I Miss You singer also talked about a romantic encounter, sharing “made out with this cute boy at a bar after one of my New York shows.”

The pop star then got candid about her present-day sex life, which seemed like an indirect confirmation of her linkup rumours with Paul Mescal. FYI: The two have been making headlines since the summer of 2024, and are reported to have made made their first public appearance together in November 2024. Although their fans are rooting for the couple, they have never accepted or denied the reports. Gracie says, “I've only more recently become proud of my sex life,” adding, “I think that comes from being in relationships with people who see me for who I am and who respect, love, and cherish me. People who actually want to learn about me and my body. But this is newer for me, too.”

The 25-year-old whose songs are all categorically emotional says, “I will write until I die about feeling rejected if I don't get a text back within five seconds of sending one; but I actually do feel quite secure in my romantic attachments. The bar is very high in my relationships.”

For those unaware, the pop star's song That's So True, which earned her a Top10 spot on her first-ever Billboard Hot 100, is described as a "brutal ballad" about an un-disclosed ex-lover. But surprisingly, Gracia made her optimistic view on relationships clear. “I don't date people who make me feel like that. I would rather be single for the rest of my life than feel uneasy in a relationship,” she concluded.
