You're bored of the lehengas and anarkalis. How about a sharara or gharara this time for a card party? We aren't talking about a ghagra.
It's a gharara. Repeat after me, Ghar-RARA. All the celebrities are wearing the traditional Muslim outfit. Ghararas and Shararas may have been introduced to us by the Mughals, doesn't mean that they are similar.
What is a sharara?
A sharara is a pair of wide legged pants with a lot of flares. It gives you an illusion of a flowy long skirt. Like this.
What is a gharara?
A gharara is a cousin of the sharara. It is a pair of wide legged pants but instead of a flare from the waist itself, they are fitted from the waist to the knees. There is a thick band right above the knees where the cloth is gathered and there is a flare from the knees to the toes.
They were introduced to the world in the 19th century and have been a part of the traditional Muslim wedding.
All of us women can be broadly put into three different body shapes - Petite, Curvy, and Tall.
Petite- This body shape is small and dainty.
Curvy- This body shape is the most sought after. Society views it as the 'perfect' figure, in the form of an eight.
Tall- This body shape has an above average height.
How to wear a Sharara:
A sharara is a gorgeous outfit yet unique outfit to wear for a mehendi or even Diwali parties! You can also wear a Sharara under an Anarkali kurta.
Petite girls always have an upper hand in dressing up as they can experiment more.
You girls can wear a crop top with a sharara to enhance your curves. Take a cue from Gauhar Khan..
Curvy girls can wear a sharara with a little below the knee kurta. It will enhance their curves and assets beautifully!
Tall girls, you can wear a really long kurta to enhance your height. The length of the kurta will not cut your height, this way you can flaunt that envious height of yours!
How to wear a Gharara:
A gharara is perfect for the wedding! It's easy to move around in and the perfect ensemble for bridesmaids. Dressy yet practical.
Petite girls:
Crop it out again! If you don't want to wear a cropped blouse, you can definitely wear a cropped kurta right above your waist belt.
Curvy girls:
Wear a kurta ending at your thighs. Your best assets will be beautifully accentuated. You'll thank me later.
Tall girls:
To enhance your height, wear the kurta right up to the band at the knee of the Gharara.
Now that you've got the difference and the different ways you can wear it, steal the show! Send us pictures of how you styled this traditional outfit at swirlster@ndtv.com and we'll feature you on our Instagram.
