As icky as it may sound, it's important to discuss one of summer's greatest woes - sweat. While sweat is integral to the body's healthy functioning, things go haywire when sweat is in excess and appearing in strange places. After being outside in the sun, have you noticed that your head might feels sweaty and greasy? It happens to the best of us and sometimes, throughout the year. A sweaty scalp can, not only feel uncomfortable and smell stale, but can lead to hair care worries like scalp build-up and blockage, if not attended to. If you're suffering from a sweaty scalp, keep these five tips in mind to reduce it.
1. Wash Off
To your everyday hair care routine, add in a clarifying or purifying shampoo like Brocato's Peppermint Scrub Shampoo weekly. Such shampoos differ from the rest by scrubbing the scalp of sweat, dirt and build-up so that no residue remains and your follicles are left clean.
2. Chop It
To allow your hair to get more ventilation in summer, think about going for a shorter crop.A larger, thicker mass of hair can trap heat and make it hotter. Summer is the ideal time to flaunt a trendy shorter length which will allow breeze to reach your scalp easier and cool it down.
3. Refresh Away
When washing your hair, add two - three drops of peppermint oil into your shampoo and continue as usual. This will add a minty tingle and leave your scalp feeling refreshed and cool. In addition, peppermint will also curb any itchiness you may feel on the area.
4. Skip Styling
On particularly hot days, skip heat styling tools. Tools like flat irons and blowdryers use hot air to style the hair, which heats up the scalp all the more. This will end up making your scalp sweat excessively which will undo any kind of hairstyling that's been done.
5. Mask Time
Make a homemade mask for your scalp by mixing three tablespoons of lemon juice with two tablespoons of coconut water. Massage it into your scalp, leave it for 15 minutes and wash with cold water. It will help curb excessive sweat, grease and oiliness.
Don't let the fear of a sweaty scalp keep you from enjoying the season!
