Well-known Russian Pianist Dmitry Masleev performed in Kolkata on Monday for the first time and enthralled music aficionados in the city.
Speaking to NDTV after the performance, Masleev told NDTV, "I am performing in India for the first time, and I was very excited to come to India. Finally, it has happened, and I am really happy. I am very grateful to the audience that came to the concert and extended such a warm welcome to me."
"I had a masterclass here and I told them that if you really love music, you just have to keep practising," Masleev added.
Masleev is described as a "Super-soloist" which is the way France Musique introduced Dmitry Masleev when he made his debut with the Orchestre National de France playing the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1, the work that helped launch his international career when he won the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow. His solo recital debut at the Philharmonie de Paris with a program of Russian and French music was a tremendous success, with two encores offered to a nearly sold-out audience and a series of glowing reviews from France's toughest critics.
Dmitry regularly performs in the Asian capitals, both with orchestras such as Seoul Philharmonic, New Japanese Philharmonic, and National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, as well as in solo recitals. Dmitry Masleev's performance in Kolkata was part of the Russia Day 2023 celebrations.
"One thing I have read and been told is that the audience of Kolkata is most musically inclined. And that is why we bring especially to you this unique event. Let this be a blissful evening of melodious music, versatile talent with some ecstatic takeaways for each of us," Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata, Alexey M. Idamkin said.
"Now we are diversifying our exposure of Russian art and music. Now we have a solo pianist of the highest calibre possible, and we'll keep up the pace I promise you. Kolkatans will see more performances of this sort of Russian artists, musicians and dancers," he added.
