One of our favourite power couples, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli are finally married after months of suspense and rumours picking up steam, only to be disappointingly dismissed. By the looks of it, the wedding, a tightly guarded, intimate affair in Italy, had all the makings of a dream wedding with outfits and jewellery by Bollywood's bride-maker, Sabyasachi. And we're amazed that two such high-profile people were able to keep such a hotly anticipated event a secret from the world -- well, at least partially. Celebrations apart, what makes Anushka and Virat's romance that much more special to our heart is the very real challenges they've had to face in their four-year-long relationship and how, in the end, love did conquer all. Virushka is the kind of stuff modern fairytales are made up of.
So even as we wish the lovely couple a lifetime of happiness, here's a trip down memory lane through Anushka and Virat's sometimes tumultuous, but always dreamy love story.
The first tentative steps... Anushka and Virat met each other for the first time while shooting for a shampoo commercial. The casual acquaintance soon turned into friendship, and, like every couple in the Internet age, they were soon following each other on various social networking sites. Before they met each other, Anushka was rumored to be dating Ranveer Singh, while other rumours hinted at a fleeting romance between Virat and Telugu actress Tamanna. Even as the two were spotted several times at each other's matches and movie sets, they never quite acknowledged their relationship publicly. But the relationship was all but confirmed when, in 2014, Virat surprised Anushka in Udaipur on her 26th birthday, and she accompanied him to Australia for a few test matches in 2014-15. Not to mention the seriously awww-worthy moment when Virat blew a kiss in Anushka's direction after scoring his 6,000th ODI run during a match against Sri Lanka in November 2014.
As a fan who love Virat and Anushka, it's an emotional moment for all of us. It all started on set of a TVC shoot and today they are reportedly married. We just don't know how to express our happiness.

It's not all been a bed of roses, though. In the grand tradition of people blowing things way out of proportion, Anushka became the unwitting target of abuse every time the country was disappointed with Virat's performance on the field. Twice, due to his underperformance in the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup and 2016 Twenty20 World Cup, Anushka was blamed and widely abused for negatively affecting his career and ability. The second time around, Virat lashed out on media, saying, "Shame on those people who have been having a go at anushka for the longest time and connecting every negative thing to her. Shame on those people calling themselves educated. Shame on blaming and making fun of her when she has no control over what i do with my sport. If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity. This was long time coming. Shame on these people that hide and take a dig. And i dont need any respect for this post. Have some compassion and respect her. Think of how your sister or girlfriend or wife would feel if someone trolled them and very conveniently rubbished them in public."
2016 seems to have been a trying year for the couple. Soon after the very public stand Virat took in support of Anushka, rumours were rife about a less-than-pleasant breakup. Again, there were unconfirmed reports of disagreements caused by him pressuring her to get married while she wanted to focus on her career. Some others said he was upset over a photo shoot she had been a part of. Whatever the case, much to the disappointment of fans, the two pointedly unfollowed each other on social media. Virat cryptically confirmed the breakup through a since-deleted selfie on Instagram captioned 'heartbroken'. He soon reposted it, but with a new caption this time. But all was not lost. Soon, new rumours started surfacing about attempts to patch things up. Salman Khan is believed to have played a part in resolving the couple's differences. Virat apparently even reached out to Anushka's brother to help him win her back.
Sure enough, slowly, fans began noticing that they were once again following each other on social media, sparking a fresh round of conjecture of a second innings for the couple. When Virat showed up to receive Anushka at the Mumbai airport on her 28th birthday in 2016, the relationship definitely seemed back on track. Since then, Virat has been effusive in his declarations of love and appreciation of Anushka, especially on social media.
The couple has also been making frequent appearances at high-profile events together -- from attending Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech's wedding last year, to shaking a leg at Sagarika Ghatge and Zaheer Khan's wedding a few weeks ago.

With their unabashed public appearances together, naturally, fans started hoping for a wedding announcement. Over the last few weeks, rumour mills had been rife about a secret wedding, when Sabyasachi was spotted outside Anushka's home in Mumbai.
And while there's no denying we're disappointed the wedding was such a tight-lipped affair, we're still suckers for happily ever afters and doing things your own way, in your own time!
