Body hair can be a downer, especially if you've planned to wear a flouncy sun dress. So what if we told you that there was a long-lasting, painless way to get rid of it? You may not believe us but it's true! Laser hair reduction is here to stay, so if you're deciding to take the plunge, here are some expert advised pros and cons to consider before you do.

Pro #1: It works on excessive hair growth

Laser hair reduction can drastically decrease the appearance of excessive hair caused by conditions like hypertrichosis or hirsutism. Says Dr. Rashmi Shetty, "First consult your doctor to find out if you have an underlying hormonal condition causing excessive hair growth, treat it and then opt for laser hair reduction."

Con #1: It's more expensive than most treatments

Laser hair removal is considerably more expensive than your regular chocolate wax. Its price depends on body part, the facility you choose, etc. and starts from approximately INR 4,000 onward.

Pro #2: It's virtually painless

If the tug of the waxing strip makes you recoil in horror, laser hair reduction can change that. Most laser hair removal facilities have 2 types of machines - the regular and the pain-free. While both do cause a mild pricking, the painless version (meant for body parts with finer growth) is a cakewalk compared to more painful methods like waxing.

Con #2: You can't trust just anyone

"As there are many types of lasers, a reputed doctor will be able to identify the right one for your hair type and manage its settings," recommends Dr. Shetty. This will give longer lasting results.

Pro #3: It improves the skin

Laser hair reduction lessens the density and thickness of the hair which also benefits the skin greatly. "The procedure also smoothens the skin's texture, reduces ingrown hair and irritation as well as reduces marks," says Dr. Shetty.

Con #3: Once isn't enough

Laser hair reduction can take 4 - 12 sessions to show the desired results so it definitely isn't for those who crave instant gratification. Even then, it needs touch-ups. "Since it is reduction and not removal, you may need to run a razor over stray strands every few months," says Dr. Shetty.
