The carpet seen at the 2023 Met Gala was crafted by a firm called Neytt by Extraweave who promise contemporary design with roots in Kerala. Cast a look at the ground when you see a photo from the event and you'll notice that it isn't your ordinary red carpet. The Neytt-made creation was snow white in colour with asymmetrical vertical lines in red and blue across its length. The carpet was made completely of sisal; a plant which is grown in India's Southern states and yields a stiff fibre. It was woven in Kerala's Alleppey, where coir weaving is a major industry. Finally, the carpet was hand-painted in the United States before it made its way over the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
