It's 2021 and it's reassuring to note that sustainable beauty isn't a simply buzzword any longer. The first-of-its-kind makeup sponge that is 100% biodegradable comes from EcoTools. The vegan and cruelty-free brand has added the new launch to their existing range of brushes and masks. Called BioBlender, it is said to be made of only 5 ingredients, each of which are vegan, cruelty-free and biobased.

It can be used as you would a regular makeup sponge for flawless base application. Once it has past its prime, it can be placed in a compost basket or garbage bin as it will degrade like any other food item. It can also be used wet or dry and features differently shaped ends to work on every part of the face.The launch of BioBlender is certain to change sustainability and its impact on beauty usage as it can prevent hundreds of tons of plastic waste in the long run.

Products like The Original Makeup Eraser and Clinique's Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm can also be referenced for their ability to be reused and that too, without including single use cotton pads. Brands like The Body Shop, Plum and Oriflame too have programs like returning of empty containers and using biodegradable ingredients to further the cause. It seems like sustainable beauty has been taken a notch higher already in 2021 and we couldn't be more glad.
