The end of the year brings out a myriad of emotions in all of us. For many Indian travellers, it's that of wanderlust. The holiday break between Christmas and New Year encourages individuals to plan year-end vacations designed around snow-laden spots and festive-decorated destinations. Be it large families who make the most of the school holidays or couples who jet off for a romantic getaway, this time of year has become a prime time for Indian travellers to vacation. We're taking an interesting look at the year-end 2024 travel trends with data provided by MakeMyTrip comprising of search and booking data for travel between December 16 to 31, 2024.

The top 20 most-searched domestic destinations start with Goa at the top spot, Mumbai in the second place, Udaipur and Delhi in third and fourth place, followed by Manali, Puri, Bangalore, Munnar and Varanasi to complete the top 10 places. Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar within Maharashtra are at spots 11 and 12, followed by Hyderabad, Ooty and Jaisalmer. Kolkata is at number 16 and Coorg, Mussoorie, Pondicherry and Shimla round off the list of 20.
The top 20 most-searched international destinations start with UAE in the first place, Thailand in the second place, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia making the top 5. USA is at number 6, followed by Vietnam, UK, Sri Lanka and Australia. Canada, Nepal and the Maldives are spots 11 to 13, followed by Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, France and Japan. Hong Kong comes in at the 18th spot, followed Turkey and Qatar to complete the list of 20.
The most booked domestic holiday packages during the year-end of 2024 were to Andaman, Kerala and Goa, followed by Himachal and Kashmir. Internationally, Dubai, Thailand, Singapore, the Maldives and Bali were the most booked foreign holiday packages.
Additional data shows that December 21, 2024, which was the last Saturday before Christmas, was the most searched travel date for both domestic and international travel. There was also a spike in interest for travel after Christmas, which indicates that travellers might be extending their holidays until New Year's Day. While bookings for travel in pairs and with family continues to be the most popular, international solo travel showed growth of 34% as well.
