Neehar Sachdeva's wedding pictures look nearly like anyone else's. The sunshine cast a radiant glow, rose petals in the air exuded traditional magic and the bride beamed with joy on the momentous occasion. The only difference from any other is that Neehar's bridal visage was without a strand of hair on her head.
At 6 months old, the American influencer was diagnosed with alopecia. Her growing years left her with periods of lush hair growth and then suddenly, patches of hair falling out altogether. In a 2021 interview with Brown Girl Magazine, Neehar bared her heart about her journey with alopecia. She said, "Because I was diagnosed as a kid, I always knew that this was a part of my life. Even if it wasn't as significant, it was always something I had to deal with."
Her growing years were marked by concealing her condition, especially if it involved family functions and stepping out in public. She added, "I am six years old and missing an eyebrow and my mom is filling it in before we head to a party, it sets an impression on me that there is something wrong with me."
After varying periods of growing tresses and hair falling out through adulthood, Neehar decided to face her condition head on. She ditched the wigs and freed herself by shaving off her hair completely. On fighting the societal expectation especially of South Asian women being viewed with long hair, she said,"'Log kya kaheinge' is a very big concern in our culture; we are too caught up with what other people would think about us."
Her show of strength extended to her wedding day too, which took place in January 2025. In her pictures, she is seen wearing a glorious red and gold bridal lehenga with layered ethnic jewellery. With her bronze makeup look, she took the occasion of her wedding day to showcase a bald look without any hair.
Her thoughts from her interview resonate perfectly with her bold wedding look as well. "They don't need to achieve nirvana, be enlightened, just one step forward that they have someone they can look towards and say, 'if she cannot have hair and still be happy and still be beautiful then why can't I do the same thing.'", she concluded.
