Top 6 Treks For The Monsoons From Mumbai
1. Matheran Fort Trek
Located at a distance of a mere 100 km from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, Matheran is a great destination for that monsoon trek. One fun fact about this hill station is that it does not allow any vehicle in its vicinity. You have to be on your feet to take in all the natural beauty of this place. There are around 36 viewpoints in Matheran that can all be explored on foot.
2. Tikona Fort Trek
Tikona Fort Trek is a renowned spot amongst the Mumbai-Pune trekkers and is located near the picturesque Pawana Lake. Make sure you do all the research before you plan a fort trek during the rain. Many forts put up warning hoardings as there are chances of accidents during a heavy downpour. This fort has a natural trail made of steps that are not too tough to follow. Owing to its rich heritage, the fort also gives you a glimpse of its rich past.
3. Tungareshwar Trek
Located to the north of Mumbai, Tungareshwar is one of the treks best done in the monsoons. It is an 18 km long trek with scenic views of Maharashtra's flora and fauna. It is a relatively easy trek that can be done with friends or family.

4. Raigad Trek
Located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, this fort trek is a great spot for history lovers. Raigad, the former capital of the Maratha Empire, stands tall even today. There are two ways to reach the tip of this fort. The main route has around 1800 steps and the other medium is the ropeway which takes mere 4 minutes for you to reach the top.
5. Pratapgarh Trek
Pratapgarh is also a very important landmark in Maratha's history. It is renowned because of the battle that took place between Afzal Khan and Shivaji Maharaj. The fort is an easy climb and should not take more than 4 hours to explore.
6. Kanheri Caves Trek
Unlike the other treks mentioned above, Kanheri Caves are located in Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali, Mumbai. It makes for a great spot for treks, especially during the rain. The place is open from 7:30 am to 5 pm for all the tourists. There are cycles available at the entrance of the park that help with the commute. Beware of the various monkeys that reside in the caves, though.
