Twinkle Khanna Getting A Master's Degree At 50 Is Proof That Dreams Have No Age

Always among the first to defy the odds, Twinkle Khanna does it again by completing her receiving her master's degree at the age of 50

We have often heard the adages “age is just a number" and that "it is never too late to pursue your dream".  Well, Twinkle Khanna lives by these mantras. The actress-turned-author, who celebrated her 50th birthday last month, continues to flow against the tide by completing her master's degree at her age. Twinkle on Tuesday graduated from Goldsmith, University of London with a master's degree in Creative and Life Writing Programme, all so that she can continue pursuing her dreams of writing fictional books. She announced the big news in a post on Instagram. Twinkle dropped a happy picture of herself, dressed in a black graduation gown and cap layered over a bright green saree, posing next to her proud husband Akshay Kumar. As always, Twinkle channelled her inner Mrs Funnybones and wrote, “In a homage to Master Raju, I can finally call myself Master Twinkle.”

Twinkle Khanna also shared the video from her Graduation day ceremony, while she was being honoured by the head of the university. Sharing the clip, she wrote, “And it's here. Graduation day. My first day at Goldsmiths feels like it was both yesterday and years ago. A sunny day, a pretty sari, and having my family with me make this day even more perfect than I ever imagined. There comes a stage when the easiest way to grow is horizontally, but we have to push ourselves to grow in myriad other ways.”

Twinkle Khanna also appeared to have mastered the craft of balancing her student life with her writing career and family. She also proved to a brilliant student and “received an exceptional distinction” in her final dissertation. Twinkle's work was also “longlisted for the Pat Kavanagh Prize” by the university. Twinkle shared the development in a post on Instagram back in October. She wrote, “A big moment, and at first, I was hesitant about sharing it. But it goes to show that age is truly just a number and doesn't hinder you from achieving your goals. I received an exceptional distinction for my final dissertation, which has now also been longlisted for the Pat Kavanagh Prize by Goldsmiths, University of London.”

About the course

According to the official university site, the MA in Creative and Life Writing Programme can help students develop their creative writing skills. The course gives the students a chance to explore different forms of poetry, novels, short stories and life writing. In addition, with time it offers the opportunity to specialise in one of those areas. The course comes under the Arts and Humanities department and is followed by a PhD programme.

Goldsmith, the University of London, is often considered one of the best educational institutes globally. The institute has attained the 96th spot in the Times University Guide 2024.
