Fashion House Viktor & Rolf's latest Haute Couture Autumn/Winter Collection 2023 'Embodiment' went infinitely viral for all the right reasons. To celebrate the brand's 30th anniversary, the design house set up an eye-popping show to make swimsuits a part of haute couture. In a paradoxical situation, swimsuits feature in the fall/winter collection with the use of 3D graphics and texts. Bizarre for some, brilliant for many others, that's the effect that Viktor & Rolf have on fashion loyalists. While one outfit reads, "NO" another says, "I Wish You Well" and yet another one reads, "Dream On."
The collection is all about exaggerated silhouettes, layering, minimal baroque decoration, surrealism, and surreal interjections of feminine tuxedos. The outfits had crepe, satin duchesse, gazar, and organza in a vibrant colour palette, ranging from pale beige to dark brown via black and white with shots of almost-neon pink, warm yellow, and turquoise. The attitude is, romantic but not soft, confident but with a warm heart, and supremely feminine and unapologetic.
In the audience were Shakira and Emily Ratajkoswki among many influential names and faces of fashion. Shakira even wore an outfit from the latest collection too. The collection was bound to receive an instant reaction from the netizens online. While one wrote, "This reminds me of Cardi B Burnnin Hell," another comment read, "NOW THISSS IS A STATEMENT PIECE!" Meme-worthy content was not too far behind when another user commented "Me walking into a room full of haters."
This is not the first time that the designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren from Viktor & Rolf have amazed the audience with their collections. Their Summer/Spring 2023 Couture Collection was as unique as their current one. Elsa Hosk wore an optical illusion gown on the red carpet at the premiere of Le Passion de Dodin Bouffant from their collection at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. The strapless number featured a slightly askew tulle dress, which was overlaid on top of a nude corset and came in a gorgeous pastel colour palette.
While introducing their Spring/Summer 2023 Couture Collection, the designer label captioned their Instagram post, "An absurd take on a stereotypical couture ball gown for the 21st century. Late Stage Capitalism Waltz' Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023"
Viktor and Rolf continue to take fashion enthusiasts by surprise with their unconventional sense of couture.
