The internet is on fire and dupe hunters were in for a treat when Walmart launches with its own $79, which is approximately Rs 6,687, Birkin dupe, also called 'Wirkin'. While it sure is a dig at the luxury market, it also is a solid move for shoppers who love to indulge in fast fashion.
These look-alikes by Walmart have turned out to be a popular move and ever since, the social media has not been able to get enough of it. As per People Magazine, rhe sold-out handbag, which Walmart describes on its website as a leather shoulder bag, comes in 12 colors including orange, dark blue, pink and more.
Luxury brands like Hermes have always remained in the public eye, however, the price point keeps it out of reach for the vast majority. The original Birkin bag costs anywhere above Rs 8 lakhs and only goes upwards in price from there. However, buying a Birkin is not that easy. You might need to wait for months or years for the right style to become available. According to CNN, "Birkin and Kelly bags, are offered intermittently and usually to clients who already have a purchase history at the brand." No wonder people are so committed to buying the dupe instead.
The response to the viral 'Wirkin' is a clear sign that the luxury appeal of designer bags still has shoppers in a choke hold. The dupe promises high quality materials with high-end aesthetics. Currently, it is all the hype as it promotes a cultural shift and budget-friendly lovers are clamoring to get their hands on the Wirkin. Shoppers who doesn't want to splurge many thousand dollars on the Birkin are giving Wirkin a try and the social media is flooded with their comments.
Recently, a social media user gave the sold out Wirkin a try and her comment section was all the praise. One user wrote, "can't find them on the site anymore!" while the other said, "Walmart has everything. So cute!!!". There was another post that explained why the Wirkin is a great move. The caption read, "The Walmart Birkin saga says a lot about value perceptions!"
While the luxury appeal of designer wear is very much present in 2025, it appears as if the increasing inflationary rate and high price of living affects the way spending is carried on on fashion items for a great deal of the population.
