After pictures of their waltz went viral, Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur's former royal family has revealed what it was like to escort actress Reese Phillippe's daughter Ava at the exclusive Bal des Debutantes, or Le Bal, in Paris last weekend. For starters, Ava is more than just her famous mother's lookalike daughter. "She is a great girl and she is not just Reese Witherspoon's daughter. She is her own person, she wants to do her own thing, start her own charity. For her, it's not just about getting an entry into Hollywood, she wants to study and broaden her horizons," Padmanabh Singh told NDTV. "It was very nice being at the ball. I met people from all walks of life, some of them future leaders of tomorrows world," he added.
The dance that has now gone viral was a somewhat last-minute scramble, he revealed. "I was playing polo so I did not get time to learn how to waltz. I was supposed to take lessons but did not get time for it so Ava and I practiced for two days before the ball and I think we did not do too badly," Padmanabh Singh said. This is evident from the video:
Padmanabh Singh, son of Diya Kumari and Narendra Singh of Jaipur, was one of 20 young men or 'cavaliers' squiring the young debutantes at Le Bal. He appears to have received as much attention as the debs, one of whom was his sister Gauravi Kumari. "I did not quite think of it like that. For me, it was more of an escorting job, a learning experience and a peek into another country's culture," said Padmanabh Singh.
He seems to have done a fairly good job of giving others a peek into his own culture. "They all want to come to Jaipur now," he said.
Apart from Padmanabh Singh and Gauravi Kumari, Le Bal was attended by actor Chunky Panday's daughter Ananya and her cousin Ahaan.
Le Bal marks the social debuts of 20-odd young women from around the world each year. The high-profile fashion event raises funds for charity.
