Want A Neck Like Barbie? This Viral Beauty Trend And More Take The Barbie Fever Forward
Barbie's effects in the real world are trending massively on social media

Saying that Barbie continues to be the talk of the town is an understatement. Movie buffs in all corners of the world have showered their love on Greta Gerwig's directorial to cross the $1 Billion mark at the global box office. Almost three weeks after its release, if you think that Barbie fever is dying down anytime soon then you are mistaken. No, we aren't only talking about the fashionistas walking on the path of the Barbiecore trend or reaching out for Barbie-inspired accessories. Fans have embraced Barbie in the real world too and life in plastic doesn't look as fantastic as it seems. Beauty trends like Barbie Botox have surfaced weeks after the Barbie Feet Challenge on social media that doctors have weighed in on for viewers to be advised to stay away from.

Barbie Botox

The makers of the film did their best to emphasise body positivity. Despite their efforts of not inspiring any unnatural beauty standards, the film has stirred up new cosmetic procedures. Certainly among the fans wishing to achieve the original Barbie's envious long neck aim to get this cosmetic treatment done. Also known as "Trap Tox," the shoulders are made to relax to make the appearance of the neck look longer to match the iconic doll's neckline. While the treatment has existed to benefit many health conditions for decades, perfectly bodied individuals getting this treatment done for aesthetic value has alarmed medical experts of the hazards of the grip social media trends have on people's minds.

Barbie Feet Challenge

Flat feet? Not in Barbie's world. Barbie Botox came weeks after the Barbie Feet Challenge. As seen in the beginning reels of the movie's trailer, Barbie played by Margot Robbie slips out of her high heels and stands on her tiptoes. The challenge involves standing on your tiptoes to mimic the iconic doll's pointed feet sending the world into a frenzy. The challenge involved standing tiptoe, in a manner that mimics the pointy feet of Barbie dolls. Many began doing the challenge on social media but that came with cautionary disclaimers from doctors advising to avoid doing it for prolonged periods of time to prevent causing harm to one's back, ankles and posture.

Post Barbie Break-Ups

Barbie and Ken can be seen having a love-hate relationship in the movie. In reality, women are facing similar issues, just in a very different context. The impact of Greta Gerwig's film has also prompted some women to reflect on their relationships with their partners. A few women have used the movie as a litmus test to check if their boyfriends are keepers or if they must wave their pink flags to bid farewell. The feminist notions played out in the film have sparked debates by many men often making women question their integrity towards women and feminist ideologies. One woman commented on an Instagram post by Huffpost, "Totally broke up with my boyfriend because of the movie. His dismissal of it as “propaganda” without knowing anything about it told me everything I needed to know about him and his embedded misogyny." Some even cheered on the ladies for their moves with comments like "Remember Barbies: they're just Kens 💅🏻" and "These guys definitely dodged a bullet with these girls."
