Strobed skin and glistening cheekbones may have been around for years now but that doesn't mean they're going anywhere. As predicted, along with glitter having its moment in 2018, highlighter will see more shades in its repertoire. And judging by the latest trend on the block, we couldn't have been more right. Opal Fire highlighting is here and just a glimpse of it is enough to tell you that highlighting is going to be even bigger this year. Started by doe-eyed influencer, The Study Of Makeup, we think this trend is going to spread like wild fire.

Just a scroll through her Instagram profile will tell you that this girl certainly knows what she's talking about. Every image includes blindingly strong highlighted skin, which has caught the attention of the Internet. But if you're wondering how the opal fire technique is different from regular highlighter, look close enough and you'll see specks of indigo and lilac tones within the highlighted area. The Instagram makeup artist takes inspiration from the opal to create an iridescent, tinted highlight on the cheekbones, under brow area, sides of the nose and lips.

Even though her pastel shaded highlight looks like the work of Photoshop, she actually expertly creates it with makeup. According to Allure, she starts with a base of powder pearl highlighter on the high points of her face. She then applies glitter liquid lipsticks in shades of pastel pink and blue to add the tinted opal touch and finally, blends them with regular highlighter. Seeing as it fits into the unicorn themed trend which the Internet cannot get enough of, we might just spot more of this during summer.

The Study Of Makeup isn't just a pretty face who is updated with the latest in beauty, she's quite the trendsetter as well. Last year's phenomenally successful flare highlighter trend was all her doing. In it, she created an almost-unreal highlight off which light bounced - perfect for selfies, we think.
