If you're inspired by Sara Tendulkar's surfing skills, we bring to you the step-by-step routine to begin surfing before you practise in the water.

1. Gather Your Equipment

Before hitting the waves, you'll need to have all the right gear essential for surfing such as surfboard, leash, wetsuit and surf wax.

2. Learn The Paddle Technique

You cannot claim to be a surfer until you have a firm grasp of the paddle technique. Start by lying on your board belly-down, with your hands behind your shoulders, your head up, and your back arched. Make sure your surfboard is positioned correctly and use your hands to propel yourself forward. Simultaneously, kick your feet. Master this skill before surfing the waves.

3. Work On Pop-Up

The change from lying down to standing up on your board, poised to ride a wave, is known as the pop-up. Before tackling the waves, practice these instructions on land.

4. Catch Your First Waves

Pick a beach with plenty of sand, spot the waves and paddle to match the wave's speed and position. A few yards away from the wave, lift up your board and pop up. Now, ride the wave as it heads to shore. Commit to regular practice sessions to refine your paddling and popping-up skills.
