The Sapporo Snow Festival takes place in February every year, and turns the town of Sapporo in northern Japan into a winter wonderland of snow and ice sculptures

The 75th edition has already kicked off in Sapporo, Japan, and will go on till February 11. It happens at three sites; Odori Site, Susukino Site and Tsu Dome Site.

From ice sculptures, skating rinks to giant snow slides, zip lines and much more, the snow festival is an unforgettable experience

Apart from snow sculptures, the weeklong extravaganza at the Odori site also tends to exhibit more than one hundred smaller snow statues

The Susukino site, known as the entertainment district, also displays ice sculptures, and the Tsudome site features snow slides for kids and food stalls
According to the Sapporo Snow Festival website, it takes about 600 vehicles of snow to make one large snow sculpture

Since 1974, an International Snow Sculpture Contest has also been part of the festival. The contest sees teams from countries, regions, and cities around the world competing to create snow sculptures
