In some cases people with allergies like asthma and rhinitis tend to have under eye darkening problem. In such cases, it is important to treat the allergies at the right time. Along with it, adopting a diet which includes green leafy vegetables and fruits is strongly recommended." Other than that, lack of sleep, excessive stress, long hours in front of the digital screen can promote dark circles.
How To Prevent Dark Circles?
Here are some expert tips to prevent dark circles:
1. Including Foods Rich In Vitamins, Iron
"Leafy green vegetables and fruits are high in Vitamin C and Vitamin E which are essential for the skin and our body. Also, it is equally important to stay hydrated and take care of the skin by applying sunscreen," said Dr. Sudheendra Udbalker.
Dr. Deepika Lunawat, associate consultant, dermatology/cosmetology in Fortis Malar Hospital said, "Low levels of iron and ferritin can cause under eye pigmentation. Hence, consuming foods rich in iron can help a great deal."
2. Stop Constant Eye Rubbing
Periorbital melanosis or dark circles often appear if you have a habit of rubbing your eyes frequently. The skin around the eyes is very delicate. Constant rubbing of the eyes seems innocuous but breaks fine blood vessels under the eye and causes hemosiderin deposition thereby leading to pigmentation. It is important to avoid this habit or urge.
3. Always Remove Eye Makeup
Dr. Lunawat suggested to remove eye makeup right after coming back home. Constant makeup and multiple applications can trigger dark circles easily.
4. Lifestyle Changes
"Staying hydrated, maintaining sleep hygiene, restricting screen time, avoiding smoking and alcohol, using sunscreen and sunglasses when you are stepping out can go a long way in preventing and treating this condition," said Dr. Lunawat.
5. Use Eye Packs
Using natural ingredients can help you get relief from dark circles. To make an eye pack at home, you have to take two teaspoon of grated or mashed cucumber in a bowl and have to add 1 tsp of milk cream into it. After keeping it refrigerated for a couple of hours you can put it on two cotton pads and keep them on your eyes. After 30 minutes of good eye relaxation, you can rinse your eyes with normal water. Here, the milk cream will provide you with pigmentation reducing formula and cucumber will give you antioxidants and calmness to your eyes.
6. Tomato Toner For Eyes
It is said that tomatoes can reduce the darkness from our skin. It has skin lightening properties. To use this, you have to squeeze a half tomato can apply directly to your under eye area or can dab a cotton pad to it. After applying this for 10 minutes, you can wash your eyes with cold water.
