The interesting thing about the Bollywood fan, and the Salman Khan devotee in particular, is their ability to apply their favourite scenes to the most mundane situations. Stand at Marine Drive or Bandstand too long and some one will hook their thumbs in their belt and swivel their hips furiously, check out the outfits on said promenades and you will see the blue and silver gleam of the bracelet he made famous and yes, know absolutely, that a thousand proposals across the country have played out to the tunes of "Do you wanna Partner" or "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi?"
So one could argue that inadvertently B-town's studly star, now pushing 52, might have wound up playing Love Guru. But be assured it's not a tag he's comfortable with, nor is this a direction you should attempt to take a conversation.
NDTV caught up with Salman Khan and asked him what he would do if asked for help in a situation like this. "You need to go and take advice from someone who has first-hand experience in these things. I have no experience in this at all so I could really mess their relationship up for them," was Salman's response.
When we asked (as thousands have done before) whether it might be time for that first hand experience? He gave us his solicited opinion on sundry nosey parkers and would-be matchmakers. Sigh, yes, ourselves included. Said Salman: "I can say a lot. Seriously, I can say a lot! Some fifteen-twenty expressions and choices of words but it'll have to be after you switch off the cameras. But on camera I will say. Why is everyone so interested? I should be the one who should be interested. Why is everyone else? Is there pleasure you'll get out of it no? Is their insecurity that I'm not married yet, I don't think you should be! And I don't think this is national news!"
You know that is fair comment, but in our defense we're not the only ones with a keen eye on this. Aamir Khan is not just interested, he had a plan! Something about tying him up and hauling him down the aisle, which he told the press about some years ago. Salman, of course, as befits his reputation was one step ahead. "Yes, I have read somewhere that Aamir wants to make me get married and is read to tie my hands and feet. I can only retort that I have also decided to tie his hands and feet to see to it that he does not get married a third time in his life," he told . Ouch. Also, not so fast.
Aamir has another promise and prediction "I haven't really tried yet. I have only told him. I have not fully tried yet. If I put in my best efforts, I will be successful."
That feeling when you realise even if you're being relentlessly nosy but find yourself in such august company. That. And so, singletons faced with the relentless efforts of assorted family members, remember Salman Khan feels your pain.
