Goodbyes are never easy and public announcements of separation are harder still. A truth that many celebrities have had to face, especially during a divorce or split. When couples unfollow each other on social media or choose not to appear in public together, the rumour mill kicks into overdrive and media speculation is rife. Until of course the inevitable, often curt, public statement that follows. But a few well-known personalities have stood out among the crowd in how positively they made their life transition official to the public.
Most recently, actor and social media influencer Kusha Kapila announced her separation from her husband Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia. She posted on Instagram that they have mutually decided to part ways. "Zorawar and I have mutually decided to part ways. This hasn't been an easy decision by any means but we know it's the right one at this point in our lives. The love and life we have shared together continue to mean everything to us, but sadly, what we seek currently for ourselves doesn't align. We gave it our all until we couldn't anymore." The post explained further, "A relationship ending is heartbreaking and it's been a tough ordeal for us and our families. Thankfully, we have had some time to process this, but what we shared and built together panned for over a decade. We still need a lot more time and healing to get to the next phase of our lives. Our current focus is to get through this period with love, respect and support towards each other. We will continue to co-parent the love of our lives, Maya. And continue to be each other's cheerleaders and pillars of support."
Not so long ago, Sushmita Sen's brother, Rajeev Sen, and Charu Asopa took to Instagram to confirm their divorce sharing an emotional note which read," There are no goodbyes. Just two people who just couldn't hold on to each other. Love will stay. We will always remain mom and dad to our daughter." The couple got married in 2019 and welcomed their daughter Ziana in 2023. However, one year into their marriage, there were rumours of separation and then a brief period of reconciliation before things reportedly went downhill again.
Whether in Hollywood or Bollywood, celebrities have been known to reveal breakups on social media in many subtle ways, such as removing all posts of their partner from social media, unfollowing them, if engaged revealing a hand without an engagement ring and more. Their fans are quick to notice each and every move made by their favourites, from who they follow or unfollow, which pictures they like and more. But Rajeev is the latest in a series of celebrities who chose to part ways amicably in the eye of the public.
When Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao separated in July 2021. As per reports, the couple issued a joint statement which read, "In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives - no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other."
Sushmita Sen announced her and Rohman's break-up with a post, which read: "We began as friends, we remain friends! The relationship was long over... The love remains." She accompanied the post with the hashtags #nomorespeculations. She signed off the note with these words: "I love you guys."
Other notable social media announcements have come from some International celebrities such as Liam Payne and Cheryl. They announced their separation in 2018 on social media.
