Asian cuisine has always been a hit in Mumbai. With multiple Asian fine-dines and plush restaurants sprawling all over the city, Chufang Asian Kitchen and Bar is all set to make a mark with a new, mouth-watering menu. The restaurant is located at the commercial capital of the city- Bandra Kurla Complex. The new menu has been phenomenally curated by Chef Arbin Tamang with extensive options in soups, sushi rolls, dumplings, pot rice and desserts. What's more fascinating is that they have elaborate vegetarian options and Jain dishes too. Their inhouse signature cocktails and mocktail-based creations by mixologist Ninad Raul are simply outstanding. A special mention to the Assistant Manager of the restaurant Diwesh who was well-acquainted with the menu and Hitesh who was the most helpful server for our meal.
The Ambiance
The interiors of Chufang Asian Kitchen and Bar are plush with dark tones. The decor has been kept authentic with a welcoming Buddha stone sculpture at the entrance. The furniture and couches are in dark tones of red, keeping the night vibe alive, evening during the daytime. The Asian-themed paper lanterns in orange and red are a great addition to the ambiance.
The Bar
The bar menu includes a whole lot of inhouse cocktails made to perfection. We were served a gin-based signature drink called 'Butterfly' which included pea flower, pineapple juice, ginger syrup and rosemary, made to perfection by Arjun. Another signature cocktail at Chufang is 'Kaizen Collins' which is a gin-infused drink with chamomile, yuzu honey and tonic water. They have a variety of hard liquor options too but their cocktail mixed mocktails are worth trying.
The Food
Chufang's signature dishes include Chicken Coriander Dim Sum, Sriracha Chicken Dim Sum, Prawns In Truffle Oil Mayonnaise, Crab Kani Uramaki Roll, Roast Lamb Blue Rice Edamame in Burnt Garlic, Pot Rice and Chokoreto. We started off with the Prawns In Truffle Oil Mayonnaise which were king-size prawns cooked to perfection dipped in green-coloured mayonnaise.
The steaming hot Sriracha Chicken Dim Sum were soft and came with a thin coating in orange colour. The chicken was finely cooked and melted in the mouth right from the very beginning.
Crab Kani Uramaki Rolls are their signature dish for a reason. The finger-licking rolls were a perfect blend of rice, crab meat and were served with Sriracha Mayo and Wasabi paste. They were a treat to our taste buds for sure!
Blue Rice Edamame In Burnt Garlic is a vegetarian rice dish in which you can add chicken or prawns. We had the vegetarian option, which was an amalgamation of flavours. The sticky rice with a tinge of burnt garlic had a mouth-watering flavour satiating the taste buds right from the first morsel.
We ended our meal on a sweet note, with Chokoreto. The dessert means 'Chocolate' in Japanese and was every bit of the word. The multi dimensional dessert came with layers of Devil's cake, Hazelnut croquantine and caramel cream in dark chocolate mousse. It was indeed a piece of heaven for all the chocolate lovers.
The Verdict
The ambience and lighting is true to Asian culture. The expansive menu and finger-licking food is definitely a plus with every dish skillfully made including authentic flavours. The dessert definitely won special brownie points. Chufang will satisfy your taste buds and you will leave with a happy tummy.
