Capsule and pod hotels are the new emerging travel trends in today's world. They offer compact, individual sleeping spaces on a budget. This type of hotel originated in Japan as a cheap, basic option for overnight accommodation for business professionals. This trend travelled to India and has gathered popularity. Travel vlogger Somya shared her experience at NapTapGo- a capsule hotel in Noida Sector 62 but it was only until Mahindra Chairperson Anand Mahindra that this concept hotel got the attention. In a thread on X (formerly Twitter), Somya posted pictures of the hotel's facilities and gave a sneak peek of the pod-style accommodations. She revealed that she stayed in a pod featuring a single bed, charging ports and an entertainment screen with other basic amenities.

Reacting to Somya's post, Anand Mahindra appreciated the Japanese-origin concept and described it as “pretty cool”. He also highlighted the benefits and how it would be a game-changer for functional affordable accommodation in India. He wrote, “That looks pretty cool. I've always thought the capsule hotel concept (first seen in Japan) would be ideal for expanding functional and clean hotel rooms in India. Giving a Flit to budget travel. But how many of you agree? Would you find this claustrophobic,” asking his followers for their insights?
