For years and years, inner wear remained strictly private. Buttoned under shirts and slipped inside skirts, it wasn't seen or talked about. These days, that has changed. Not only are the right bras recommended for backless blouses, inner wear as outer wear is a certified trend. You'd think that bralettes and sports bras would be remain firmly behind closed doors, or under clothing. Not anymore.
Before you assume inner wear worn outside is another one of those whimsical runway trends, you'd be surprised to know that it has even celebrities have made it their own. Corsets are worn under blazers, pajama suits as coordinated sets and sports bras as crop tops. They can bring their fair share of risque to the table but when done right, it doesn't have to be all sensual and daring.
Most recently in Bollywood, actress Yami Gautaum decided to go down the inner wear route without making it A rated. For the recent Elle Graduates 2018 event, Yami wore a steel grey slip dress by designer Nachiket Barve. But it wasn't just any ordinary slip dress. Barve's creation had an added second layer of mesh beneath that converted it to midi length. It was this very element that added depth to the piece and a demure, feminine quality, rather than something you'd save for the bedroom. Adding to the chic evening wear look was Yami's hair worn straight and centre parted, a brown toned lip and metallic strappy silver stilettos. A perfect style lesson to tone down a slip dress and take it from the bedroom to the streets.
While Yami Gautam is one of the few who took the plunge in Bollywood, Hollywood celebs haven't shied away from flaunting their undergarments outside. Kim Kardashian's slip dresses are a constant staple in her wardrobe, whether it be on the streets or at a shoot.
Model Jasmine Sanders even showcased a lace slip dress from Ermanno Scervino for the designer's runway show.
