Lucknow: In a case of dishonour killing, a Dalit youth in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh was killed by the family of an upper caste girl with whom he was in a relationship, police said Friday.
The girl's father Madan, two brothers and an uncle have been booked for killing the 21-year-old Atul Kumar, whose body was found Thursday on the outskirts of Dehlalawala village, police said.
All the four accused are absconding.
"Preliminary investigations indicate Madan and his family members abducted Atul Kumar Wednesday when he had gone out of his home and killed him. Atul's body was dumped on the outskirts of the village," police inspector Manoj Kumar told reporters Friday in Bijnor, some 400 km from Lucknow.
"Investigations indicate that Madan, along with his two sons and a brother, killed Atul to safeguard the honour of the family. The case against the four accused was registered late Thursday after an enquiry that followed a complaint by the victim's family," he added.
According to police, Madan, on several occasions, had warned Atul Kumar of dire consequences unless the youth ended the relationship with his daughter.
