Ex-Armyman scripts kidnapping of son for ransom

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police is looking for a dismissed Indian Army soldier for scripting the kidnapping of his son in the Bulandshahr district.

Bulandshahr is about 400 km from the state capital, Lucknow.

According to the police, Amit Kumar, a resident of Sikandrabad, had devised his seven-year-old son's abduction to fool family members and relatives into coughing up Rs.7 lakh as ransom.

The police discovered this through an electronic surveillance of his phone.

Kumar had, on June 27, lodged a missing complaint of his seven-year-old son Kartik, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gulab Singh told IANS.

Kumar also told the police that he had received a phone call seeking Rs.7 lakh as ransom.

The SSP deputed a special operations group to investigate the matter and it was found that the calls from the kidnapper were being routed to the boy's father.

It soon became clear that the missing boy's father had scripted the kidnapping to pressurize the family and relatives into selling their land for the safe release of his son, Singh said.

The kidnappers asked the family to bring the money to the Dadri railway station but dumped the boy outside a cinema hall and fled due to the heavy police deployment, Singh added.

The boy has been handed over to his mother.

Kumar was dismissed from the Army following a murder case against him.
