Lucknow:
Heat wave conditions prevailed in Uttar Pradesh with several districts recording temperatures three to four degrees above normal in the past 24 hours.
"Temperatures remained appreciably above normal in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad and Kanpur divisions," the MET office said.
Varanasi with a maximum temperature of 44.9 degree celsius was the hottest place in the state followed by Allahabad with 44.8 degree Celsius. Banda recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4 degree celsius while Sultanpur sizzled at 44 degree celsius.
The state capital Lucknow also witnessed mercury soaring to 42.9 degree celsius.
The MET office said that the heat wave was likely to continue and weather would remain dry all over the state.
