Hi-tech gang of ATM robbers busted

Lucknow: The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday busted an inter-state gang of robbers who used to swindle money by swiping ATM cards of unsuspecting people.

According to the home department, the gang was busted after a series of thefts through ATMs was reported in the state capital.

The STF had begun to keep a tab on the suspected criminals, putting their phones under electronic surveillance, and on Wednesday swooped on the gang at Mahanagar.

The kingpin of the gang has been identified as Neeraj Pandey and ATM cards in the name of Dev Sharan Maurya belonging to the PNB, and a large number of ATM cards of the State Bank of India, driving license and a mobike without a number plate has also been seized.

The accused had confessed of swindling lakhs of rupees through duplicate ATM cards from different bank accounts in Gonda, Basti, Lucknow and Ayodhya.
