Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has stayed the polls for student body elections in the Lucknow University.
Hemant Singh, a candidate in the polls, had filed a petition before the High Court demanding that the election process be stopped as the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee were not being followed while conducting polls.
The polling was scheduled for October 15. The court will now hear the case on October 18.
Campus politics is finally seeing a revival in Uttar Pradesh after the Samajwadi Party came to power. Former Chief Minister Mayawati had banned student politics citing reasons of deteriorating academic culture in higher education.
Recently, student body polls were conducted in the Allahabad University. Parties like the Samajwadi Party hope to benefit from student politics as its youth wing, the Lohia Vahini, actively participates in these polls.
