Lucknow:
Public indecency in the city of Nawabs will now cost a decent dime.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a fine of Rs 500 on those found peeing, spitting and littering on the roads.
A bill passed by the civic body has authorised municipal workers to impose the fine on the spot from offenders.
The steep penalty was introduced after the municipal body's earlier fines apparently failed to fetch results.
Earlier, the local body had imposed a fine of Rs 100 on anyone caught urinating in public, which was later increased to Rs 200.
Repeat offenders were fined Rs 500, and more similar offences could lead to a fine of up to Rs 5,000, but none of that could stop people from peeing in public.
In another move to clean up the state, the state road transport corporation or UPSRTC has installed CCTV cameras at its bus stations in major cities of the state to keep a watch on those peeing in the open.
